The Trademark Group was founded in 1997 by veteran trademark attorney Marnie Wright Barnhorst. We were the first, and remain the only, San Diego-based law firm dedicated exclusively to domestic and international trademark law. Over the years we’ve built a strong network around the world that gives us a singular strength in international trademark protection.

From the beginning, Marnie established the practice to offer an alternative to large general practice law firms. Because we’re highly specialized, we give our clients a more attentive experience while using our focused trademark law expertise to provide exceptional service at a very reasonable cost. We’ve earned a reputation for excellence and outstanding service and have handled nearly ten thousand marks domestically and in more than 120 countries worldwide.

Originally located in downtown San Diego, we made La Jolla home in 2003, moving to our current location in 2006. The Trademark Group offices, with inspiring ocean views and a feel-at-home comfort, are a relaxed backdrop for the fast-paced work we do protecting the marks, slogans and intellectual property for clients all over the world.

With success comes growth. We’ve brought in top-quality trademark attorneys and paralegals—which are rare to smaller firms—to ensure our clients continue to receive efficient service with a personal touch. In 2005 domestic and international trademark attorney Kiley Barnhorst MacDonald joined our team. Attorney Nicholas Barnhorst, who focuses on intellectual property litigation, came onboard in 2009.
